Why Sex?

I know...I know... I update my post again anyway..

HAHAHAHA...... But didn't u get curious of the title??

It was actually my Biology lecture today...on Sexual Selection..and we watched a film on Why Sex?

Cool huh? Biology is fun! and it somehow explains something in someway.... xD

We learnt an amount of things from that film..really cool stuff.. =D

Actually asexual organism can produce more offspring than sexual individuals.. so why isn't sex completely be eliminated?... The existence of sex is a paradox.

The answer is sexual reproduction produce more varieties in individual and it has advantages over asexual reproduction because deleterious alleles or mutation can be reduced from generation over generation.. This involves Purifying and Changing environment hypothesis.. (HAHAHA....I know it is getting boring rite? Apasal all Biology stuff..)

So.. from the film.. THere was a really interesting fact..

The Songbirds.. The male songbirds may be feeding the youngs that aren't his...hahaha...coz his wife cheated on him .. xD

Researchers found out that female songbirds will mate with neighbouring male songbirds which are healthy and physically fit to pass on those good genes to her youngs.. And she will find another male songbird who is capable of care for her youngs and find food for her and the youngs.. (Damn Celaka rite.... Animal kingdom also has such thing...)

This is the fundamental asymmetry of sex..where "Eggs are expensive, but sperms are cheap"

--A female fitness is limited by the resources needed to produce more gametes or eggs but not the ability to find a mate..

--A male's fitness is limited by the number of females they can mate with..

(HAHAHAHAHA........)

Female may choose male on the basis of

-Physical characteristics that signal male genetic quality

-Resources/parental care provided by males.

(HAhahaha.... I wonder if this applied to humans too....)

Why are female choosey?

-Because resources are limited..and they want the good genes to pass only to their young.. And..this leads to competition in male...

So, from the film again... The closest relative to human, chimpanzee and bonobo..

the fun thing about bonobo is .. they have all those sexual behaviours of humans.. gay..lesbian..lolx... those who watch the film will understand..xD

I will explain a bit here.. When Bonobo come upon a new feeding ground or food source, the increased excitement will usually leads to communal sexual activity. All these male to male genital behaviour or female to female genital behaviour are for decreasing tension and peaceful feeding so that not more fighting occur over fighting for mates. This allow them to feed peacefully.. lolx.. see.. what a peaceful animal they are.. =.=

Whereas chimpanzee always fight.. they are violent animals..

Chimpanzee violent..bonobo peaceful but gay.. Doesn't it somehow assembles human beings.. xD

lolx.. there were actually lots of stuff from the film but I just couldn't write down everything here..(I know..it's kinda long ady..)

Last most interesting fact..

Why we assume something as beautiful..nice..masculine.. is we have it from our ancestors.. According to the film, when our ancestors were finding mates..they find those with good genes to pass down to their youngs..

Although we are not thinking of that and doing that in this modern days..but our subconscious somehow still doing it..

Woman want masculine guy for a short term relationship...while a softer looking guy for long term relationship..(hahaha..according to the film..)

All are part from the evolution..

So..why sex? hahahaha.....according to the film, is we feel good about it .. and we feel good parenting our young too... All are part from the human evolution... =) Most of the time when we feel good about most of the things..is that it is in our gene and it is from our ancestors.. xD

Why sex in the animal kingdom? By sexual selection, it is necessary for their youngs to survive and reproduce more offsprings with the variation of inherited traits.. =)

We, humans..anyhow..is to reproduce and make sure the species of humans continuing on earth and keep on living..same goes to other animals too.. =) so, we have to love our earth..coz she is what we have for all species to live in.. =)

Actually I want to watch the last part of the film again as they approaching the conclusion..coz I am still not quite clear about it... xD

Overall..I wrote this post is for mere sharing of my lecture with my frens..no offense intended.. =) It is just all Biology.. Maybe I got parts of it wrong.. but I will revise my lecture again..and perhaps write a long new post again.. LOLX... xD

NOW I'm SURE I LOVE BIOLOGY... and starting to anticipate my exploration into Biotechnology..coz it is all about genetics also rite? xD

Plus, from yesterday's seminar..I started to understand.. Medicine isn't everything.. =)
